As the coronavirus pandemic unfolds, air-travel capacity around the world has plummeted to record lows. How long will it take until people are allowed to travel again? And when they are, how long will it take for flight bookings to recover?
To keep track of how commercial flight capacity is developing around the world, we created the Flight Demand Tracker (FDT).
The below charts illustrate the number of flights departing from various airports and countries/regions for each week since Sunday, the 29th of December 2019 until now. The FDT will be updated bi-monthly. The data are drawn from flight statistics sites such as Flightradar24, FlightStats, and others and allow you to follow the flight-capacity progression by major region/country.
To make it easier to compare the trajectories, the starting value was indexed to 100 in the major chart below the global map.
