When Greta Thunberg sailed a zero-emissions boat to attend the UN Climate Summit in New York, it was the ultimate public demonstration of the recent sustainability hype. The result: reducing carbon emissions when traveling by plane has become a major concern for travelers.
To quantify the hype, we utilized Google Trends to illustrate the general public’s interest in sustainable flying. The numbers show a surge in Google searches for sustainability-related terms such as “CO2 compensation” and “Atmosfair” or “MyClimate” – two of the leading companies offering travelers carbon-emission offsetting.
It turns out that search interest more than quadrupled in 2019 only.
